Frequently Asked Storm Damage Insurance Questions

Why Would My Insurance Company Replace my Roof?

The purpose of homeowner's insurance is to protect homeowners against losses in their property's value due to damage that is beyond their control. If you have hail damage, your insurance company will compensate you for your loss and replace your roof.

I don't see any hail damage. What's all the fuss about?

Even if you can't see actual holes or indentations hail damage is a big deal because it; accelerates granule loss, drastically shortens the life of your roof, and voids manufacturer’s warranties. The adjuster will send you paperwork with what damages are covered. Forward any paperwork to Valiant Roofing so that we can verify that the damages have been fairly evaluated and accurately reported.

Your insurance carrier has trained professionals representing them. Do you?

Valiant Roofing was founded by a former insurance adjuster and is based out of Jackson, Wisconsin. Unlike the big storm chasing companies, we don't bring people in from Texas, we were here before the storm and we'll be here long after the storm chasers go on to the next one.

Will my rates increase if I file a roofing claim?

No. Homeowners Insurance does not work like Auto Insurance. You will not be penalized for filing a claim, however, because of your geological location rates will likely increase due to substantial storm damage sustained in your area.

What does a hail hit look like?

A hail hit on a shingle looks like a "bruise" or a dark spot where the granules on the shingle have been knocked off and the underlayment or fiberglass mat is exposed. New hail hits will have a shiny appearance because the asphalt has been freshly exposed and the sun has yet to weather it to a dull color.

How do insurance companies pay on claims?

The 1st Check you receive covers the actual cost to repair or replace damaged property minus depreciation. When work is completed, the insurance company will issue a 2nd check for the recoverable depreciation amount.

Do I Need to Get 2 or More Estimates?

Your insurance company has a defined price list they use and will only pay actual costs for repairs, regardless of what prices you may get. Think of it this way. What reward will the insurance company give you for finding the lowest price for them? Will they lower your premium? Your insurance company will pay a reputable contractor only "fair market price".
